Research has revealed that Transcendental Meditation can help combat depression. This is the second announcement involving a study of meditation to come out this year. The first announcement "recommended expanding the provision of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for everyone at risk of depressive relapse in the UK"and was released in January. That was founded on the results of an 8 week study showing how relapses could be reduced by 50% in one year through the practice of meditation.
The new study is showing that depressive relapse in older people can be reduced by 50% too.
Evidence is growing that regular meditation practice can provide considerable help in managing health issues such as heart disease, HIV, cancer and pain. Attention skills, life satisfaction, creativity and cognitive functioning have also been shown to improve with the practices of meditation.
